AFTER A TERRORIST EVENT
  • Stay away from the event area; there may be secondary devices.
  • Check for injured and trapped people near the event area and provide first aid and CPR if you are trained to do so.
  • Monitor local media for the latest emergency information.
  • Do not leave the safety of a shelter to go outdoors until authorities announce it is safe to do so.
  • Check your home's foundation, chimney and surrounding land for damage. Be especially careful of downed power lines and ruptued gas lines.
  • Notify friends or family of your condition.
News Footage
News footage of terrorist events and people's reactions to those events can be very upsetting, especially children. Do not allow children to watch TV news reports about such events, especially if the news reports repeatedly show images of the incident. Young children may not realize that it is repeat video footage, and may think the event is happening again and again.

Adults may also need to give themselves a break from watching disturbing footage.
